Western standoff project

For this project, we have been set with a task testing our editing skills shooting shots for a short video which came together creating a Western standoff. Never edited before, this is the first time I have put the time into something like this as when it came to the Induction project at the start of the year, partner Emily Smith was the one who our group relied on for editing.

Working from home to produce the final product, a software titled 'Video Pad' had been downloaded in order to help get the edit completed. Failing as I came to find this particular software too complicated, a different application had been found, 'Movavi', replacing Video Pad working more simpler for my level of editing. Issues did follow along with this app annoyingly, first being as videos were placed and cut some went quite dodgy glitching out on me as if they had been somehow hacked. To be fair, it is possible the glitching was due to my own home laptop being too slow but then again, not too sure there. By the end though, luckily, all of the glitches had been resolved now perfect for watching.

Second problem that came with using Movavi, it watermarked the outcome. Unaware this was to happen till the very end extracting the piece, painfully there's no found way to resolve this. So therefore, not so perfect for watching. I now know for next time though to try a different editing tool and shall definitely make sure to double check the use leads to zero complications.

For each shot, a filter titled 'Adams' was placed for the whole sequence as I aimed to go for a classic type silent ol' black and white motion picture vibe for the whole short. When it came to the opening scene where the focus was fully on the two characters eyes, the original plan was to make the top slide one side off the screen with the bottom shot sliding in the opposite direction to the top transitioning to the next scene. Unfortunately I couldn't get that far but it finished decent enough which I am happy with.

When it came to the audio files, a combination of a Western duel theme with a mix of a silent film soundtrack was considered. In the end, a tune I came across on YouTube is what you can hear watching the short. Additionally, the channel who published the music found evidentially had given permission for anyone giving no issue for copyright related problems. Making the audio more original and better fitting for the visuals, the sound had been snipped and fixed removing sections and placing them together avoiding any rough jump cuts distracting the viewers.

Overall, It may not be the best but I am quite pleased myself with the outcome especially with this being the first video project I helped film and edit. The two saved outcomes will be listed here:
